MDS DMD BECOMES 21ST PRESIDENT AND CHAIRMAN OF ICSAN

History is again being made in the annals of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) as it holds today, the investiture of its 21st President and Chairman of Council.

The new President, Hakeem Ogunniran, FCIS steps into the office after two years of serving as the Institute's Vice President. A lawyer by training, Ogunniran is a well known name in corporate practice committing close to two decades in corporate governance.

An alumnus of he University of Lagos, Ogunniran is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, London and Nigeria and member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrator, UK. Between 1986 and 1992, he was lecturer at the Universities of Ilorin and Lagos. In 1991/1992, he was a Visiting scholar at the Yale Law School Connecticut, USA.

He joined UACN Plc in 1995 as Manager, Legal Services and between 1998 and March 2000, he was at various times, Western Area Manager, GBO/MDS, Marketing Manager, GBO/MDS and Acting Managing Director of UACN Property Development Co. Plc. He was appointed Divisional Managing Director of MDS Logistics (Division of UAC of Nigeria Plc) in April 2000. He has attended various training programs outside the country.

The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria is the leading recognised professional body in Nigeria dedicated to the task of broadening the professional horizons of tomorrow's managers by providing programmes on wide range of subjects that lead to a qualification which is nationally and internationally recognized. The professional qualification is the equivalence of business education comparable to a master's degree level programme. It is a ‘professional qualification that results from professional education'. No one becomes a member of the institute without passing the qualifying examinations.

ICSAN is an offshoot of the International professional body, Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators, with its headquarters in London and divisions and associations in Commonwealth Countries. The international body was founded in 1891 and received Royal Charter in 1902. The Institute in Nigeria was established many years ago as an associate of the international body. It was granted a charter by Act No 19 of 1991 (formerly Decree No. 19 of 1991).

The Institute's Objectives are:

•  To develop and promote the professional ideals, standards, ethics and code of conduct and the interest of the Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.
•  Encourage potential Chartered Secretaries and Administrators to acquire Professional qualification, and organize continuing education pogramme and refresher courses for the profession.
•  Create opportunities for social interaction, communication and solidarity among the members.
•  Maintain art appointment register and foster excellent professional practice.
•  Establish a student's section for the encouragement and development of student activities

Hakeem Ogunniran 's predecessor is Mr. Nosike Agoke, FCIS, who steered the Institute's ship between 2004 and 2006. Other past Presidents are Mallam M. K. Zubairu, FCIS, (1998-2000), Dr Erastus B O Akingbola, Vice Chairman of Intercontinental Bank Plc (2000-2002) and Mr. Olusoji A Majekodunmi, FCIS (2002-2004).

Also to become the Institute's Vice President is Deacon Moses Bamidele Adeisa FCA, FCIS, A Chartered Accountant and Managing Director of Pilot Securities Limited. Mr. Dele Togunde, FCIS is the ICSAN Registrar/Chef executive.
