GRAND CEREALS WINS AWARD
December, 4th 2009

Grand Cereals and Oil Mills Ltd (GCL), a subsidiary of UAC of Nigeria Plc, has been awarded the Nigerian Heart Foundation Distinguished Merit Award.

The award, given in appreciation of the company’s support towards the activities of the foundation, was presented during the dinner and awards night of the eight Africa Heart Network Annual Meeting & Workshop in Abuja, recently.

Grand Cereals & Oil Mills, in fulfillment of its commitment to promote healthy living among its teeming consumers, has collaborated with NHF to check the health claims of its ‘heart friendly oil’, the Grand Pure Soya Oil.

A formal endorsement and presentation of the analysis result of the International Food Check programme, conducted yearly by the NHF, took place early this year.

With the endorsement, GCL has entered into a strategic relationship with the Nigerian Heart Foundation to ensure healthy hearts for all Nigerians.

The Executive Director, Scientific Research, Nigerian Heart Foundation, Dr K. K. Akintoye, said “the foundation believes that the task of preventing and tackling the rising burden of cardiovascular disease in Africa is the responsibility of all including government, mass media, NGOs and corporate  organisations.”

He, therefore, called on other corporate organisations in the country to emulate Grand Cereals in supporting the activities of the foundation in combating heart-related diseases.

In his response, Joe Dada, Managing Director, GCL, thanked   the executive and members of the Nigerian Heart Foundation for the recognition extended to the company.

He said GCL was committed to supporting key activities that would counter the increase in heart disease and related issues through information, campaigns and programmes of the foundation.

He stated that the company’s mission was “to promote healthy living by offering high quality food of excellent value to consumers.”

He expressed the company’s commitment to providing nourishing and healthy products for consumers’ everyday life.
